Peter J. Blau, PhD


Peter J. Blau is a native of Reading, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Lehigh University (B.S., M.S. Metallurgy and Materials Science) and The Ohio State University (PhD. Metallurgical Engineering).  With over 40 years of experience in the materials aspects of friction and wear, Blau has authored four monographs, edited books and handbooks, and published over 180 articles in peer-reviewed, archival journals.  A past chairman of both the International Conference on Wear of Materials and ASTM Committee G2 on Wear and Erosion, he has served as a research principal investigator, project manager, and advisor to industry, universities, and the federal government.  An international guest lecturer, he is a Fellow of ASM International, ASTM International (Award of Merit), and the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE).


Blau held positions at the Air Force Materials Laboratory, the National Bureau of Standards (NIST), and was a Distinguished R&D Staff member and Tribology Research User Center Leader at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.  He has been a guest scientist at Ford Motor Company's Scientific Research Laboratories and was acting Scientific Officer for the Tribology Program of the U.S. Office of Naval Research. From 2013-2019 he served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Wear journal.  BTC is a veteran-owned small business that is registered with Dunn & Bradstreet and the US government's SAM system
